    1916 Canadian Racing Launch 20ft “Redskin”

    This 1916 racing launch is believed to have been built in Ontario and was first campaigned by Atlantic City Yacht Club member F.W. Van Loon of Philadelphia. The president of the Antique Automobile Club of America, D. Cameron Peck, purchased the vessel from Van Loon in 1948 and commissioned a restoration by Ralph T. Buckley in Atlantic City. The vessel was restored again in 1984 by us at Sierra Boat Company, thereafter earning first place at that year’s Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance. The boat was put into storage in the late 1980s before being acquired by a new owner in 2003 and brought to operational status in time to earn Best Engine of Show at the 2003 Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance.

    Power is from an inboard Wisconsin Journey 449ci inline-four that was reportedly installed in 1917. The 20-foot oak hull is finished in red, white, and black with varnished decking. This racing boat was donated to the Tahoe Maritime Museum in 2003.

    It was stated that the boat was designed in 1912 and fabricated between 1913-1916. The vessel measures 20 feet long and features a beam of five feet as well as a two-foot draft. The planning hull is constructed of oak and features a bronze stem band and rib rails. The sides are painted red above a white bootstripe and black underside. The forward deck is finished in white, while the gunwales, aft deck, and transom are varnished wood. The 1948 restoration involved replacement of the transom and decking.

    The open cockpit features a flat floor made of varnished wood planks. A single seat located in the center wears green upholstery and a button-tufted lower cushion. A tan canvas cover for the forward cockpit also protects the engine.

    The wood steering wheel operates the rudder via a pulley system and cables that run along the inside of the starboard hull. Instrumentation includes a 2,200-rpm Corbin tachometer and an oil pressure gauge. A vintage Buffalo fire extinguisher is mounted beneath the steering wheel, and a boat hook is affixed on the port side.

    The original two-stroke Watertown six-cylinder engine was replaced in 1917 with a Wisconsin Journey 449ci inline-four, which was rated at 110 horsepower at 2,200 rpm when new. The T-head Wisconsin engine is said to weigh 875 pounds and features a twin-spark ignition system and six-volt electrics. The hand-operated fuel pump reportedly provides pressure and the engine is said to have run under testing when fuel was poured into the priming cups, though the #2 priming cup passage needs cleaning and the fuel tank is filled with bad gasoline.

    The vessel was last in the water in 2003. A wooden cradle is included in the sale.

    The iconic 103 runabout, also known as a Triple Cockpit Raised Deckwas produced from 1928 to 1931, with a total of 627 hulls made. This example was restored to the highest of standards by a restoration shop back East. It came to Lake Tahoe in 2009 where it has been stored and service by Sierra Boat. It received new stain and varnish on the decks and hull sides in the winter of 2019/2020 by Northwest Classic Boats in Auburn.

    This 1930 Chris Craft features a “no soak” bottom for no leak usability. The boat is powered by a Chris Craft MCL engine with 175 hp. The boat is protected by a new custom waterline cover and comes with a 1997 dual axle Performance Trailers trailer.

    “Summerbell” has been used on Lake Tahoe since its arrival in 2009 and is currently in its slip at Sierra Boat ready for a new home!

    To the best of our research, “Liberty” is the only remaining Gar Wood 28ft Triple Cockpit with an original Gar Wood conversion engine. Only four of the 28-55 runabouts were built in that year, according to records compiled by Tony Mollica. Gar Wood purchased and marinized the World War I engines as a way to provide lightweight 400 hp engines, first in the Baby Gar 33ft boats and later in a small amount of 28 footers. The Scripps V-12 engines would not be available for a few years later, so in 1932 if you wanted performance, the Liberty V-12 was the option of choice.

    Sierra acquired this boat as a complete derelict, sometime in the 70’s. Much of the boat’s hardware was missing but the engine was still there. Restoration was started in the early 80’s and at the time it was one of Sierra’s most extensive restoration projects, requiring almost an entire replacement of every frame and plank. That work was done by then employee, Tony Brown, now the owner of Western Runabouts. The engine, as mentioned was there, but in sorry condition. At the time, we did not have the needed spare parts to rebuild it. We did have however, a complete running Liberty that had come out of a 33ft Gar Wood. Refurbishing of the engine and installation was done by Sierra’s legendary mechanic, Dave Chanda.

    Fast forward to present, the boat has once again had a light re-restoration of the wood and upholstery, entrusted to Tony Brown. The engine was removed by Sierra and master engine builder Cooper Stubbs completely tore down the engine for an inspection and new gaskets. All engine systems were checked over and re-built as needed.

    A favorite at the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance, “Liberty” stands out from the crowd. If you have never driven a Liberty powered boat, there is nothing quite like it. 1,649 cubic inches of engine turning at 1,800 rpm with 5″ exhausts. The torque is immense, and every slight turn of the throttle is instantly translated into more speed.

    This is a chance to own a truly one of a kind 1932 Gar Wood that has a long history on Tahoe and has been cared for by the best craftsmen on the lake.

    This 1934 Chris-Craft runabout is a Custom 309 model that features a 27′ mahogany hull with triple cockpits. From 1932 to 1941, Chris Craft made only 62 27’ Custom Runabouts. This Chris Craft, named Star Dust, was originally purchased in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and was brought to Lake Tahoe by Fred Kehlet later in the 1930s. Kehlet used it for public rides from his family’s maritime operation at Meeks Bay Resort. The vessel was later acquired by John Wickland III, and it earned Best of Show at the 1992 Tahoe Yacht Club’s Concours d’Elegance. Western Runabouts refurbished the exterior in 2003, and the boat earned a score of 84 at that year’s Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance. Star Dust was donated in 2004 to the Tahoe Maritime Museum and served as their summer ride boat for museum members and the public. A Crusader 6.0-liter V8 and forward/reverse transmission were installed in 2012, though the original A-120 V8 engine is included in the sale.

    The planing hull and curved deck feature seam-and-batten mahogany construction over white oak framing. The boat measures 27′ long and 7′ 2″ wide and has a 28″ draft. Polished chrome deck hardware includes the cutwater, chocks, cleats, engine compartment vents, and navigation lights.

    The foredeck and quarterdeck are natural varnished mahogany, and the king planks and coverboard are stained walnut. In 2003 Western Runabouts sanded, repaired, and varnished the hull and deck.

    The triple cockpit layout features three separate seating areas, each equipped with tan vinyl benches and planked soles covered in black rubber mats. A single-pane, tempered-glass windscreen shields the driver and features a hinged frame and wind wings. The forward and aft cockpit soles are removable for access to their respective bilges.

    A banjo steering wheel is mounted on the starboard side of the foremost cockpit and is equipped with a center throttle lever. A forward/reverse shifter extends from the floorboard. An instrument cluster for the Crusader engine has been added under the dashboard and includes a 6k-rpm tachometer and gauges for oil pressure, temperature, and voltage. Period instrumentation is retained in the dash fascia but is not functional at this time.

    A fuel-injected, GM-based Crusader 6.0-liter V8 was installed in 2012 by Allen’s Marine Engines of Saratoga, California, along with a ZF 63A transmission. The replacement engine was rated for 375 horsepower and is fueled by twin 30-gallon tanks in the stern. When the boat was last used in the summer of 2019 a coolant leak was noted with the recommendation of replacing the thermostat gasket and exhaust manifolds.

    The removed 825ci (13.5 liters) Chris-Craft A-120 V8 is included in the sale. It is 543 of 605 A-120s made and has been modified with a 12-volt Delcotron alternator. The engine received a compression test in 2021 which showed low compression in one cylinder so an engine rebuild would be needed if a buyer decided to switch back to the original engine. The factory wiring, instrumentation, and linkages are said to remain fitted so that the next owner can reinstall the original engine if so desired.

    The bottom is a 30-year-old epoxy bottom that is showing her age. The boat was last in the water in September of 2019. The bottom has dried out in storage and seams have opened up. A bottom replacement should be factored in for any potential buyer.

    This boat comes on a steel, tandem-axle Zieman trailer that is painted black and features side steps, carpeted beds, 15″ wheels, and a Dutton-Lainson hand winch. The boat is protected by a custom waterline cover and comes with an anchor, lines, lifejackets, and a boarding ladder.

    The Chris Craft Special Race Boat was the first of the famous Barrel Back designs from Chris Craft. Most of them were painted red, white, and blue. Very fast in their day with a 121 hp KB flathead six, this one is even faster.

    As a longtime Sierra Boat customer, he had a thing for small fast boats, and in the early 70’s a 365 cu in Cadillac V8 was shoehorned into her engine bay. This is not a show boat, but a fun vintage hotrod. An older restoration, much of the work was done in the early 90’s including a new deck and engine rebuild. The heavy duty fiberglass bottom was done in the 70’s for extra strength.

    This 1940 Gar Wood Custom Runabout named “Cracker Jack” was purchased by by the Kilpatrick Sales Corporation and received on July 2nd, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri. It was used for recreation and transportation on the Mississippi River in the Clarksville area. In 1964 the boat, along with a collection of antique cars, was involved in a warehouse fire where is suffered damage. It was finally restored in 1984 when the original owners moved to Spokane Washington and had Sid Young of Stan Craft perform the work. The current sellers purchased the boat from the original owners on October 19th, 2012 and transported it from Spokane, Washington to Nevada City, California where Curtis Bauman and Aaron Gack completely restored “Cracker Jack” to its original condition.

    “Cracker Jack” is powered by a Chrysler Crown 6 cylinder with 103 hp. It was rebuilt by John Allen in 2012. Stanley Marshall provided the upholstery work using real leather throughout.  The boat features a “no soak” fiberglass bottom which was done during the restoration in 2012 as well. The deck, hull sides and transom varnish are in excellent condition. The upholstery has been meticulously maintained and is original in styling. The boat is protected by a custom full waterline cover and comes with a 2013 California Trailer Works dual axle custom trailer.

    “Cracker Jack” won “BEST GAR WOOD OF SHOW” award in the 2016 Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance boat show.

    From 1940 to 1942, Chris Craft only produced 425 17ft Chris Craft Deluxe Runabouts or better know as “Barrel Back” runabouts. The iconic “Barrel Back” name comes from the almost perfect semi-circle transom that looks from the rear like a floating barrel when it is in the water.  Beautifully appointed, these mahogany-hulled runabouts were built to the highest standards and the graceful lines made them popular with generations of collectors and wooden boat enthusiasts.

    This 1942 Chris Craft 17ft Deluxe Runabout was found in LA where it was used on fresh water lakes in that area. The original restoration was completed in 2001 and later the boat received new coats of varnish and mirror work at Northwest Classic Boats in Grass Valley, CA.

    This boat features a no-soak west system bottom for easy use. It is powered by an upgraded Chris Craft KL engine with 121 hp which helps it move along at Lake Tahoe’s high altitude. There is no engine hour meter, but the seller has stated that the engine has less than 200 hours on it. The boat has its original 6V electrical system.

    This “Barrel Back” has been featured in magazines and books as well as been shown at Nationals, Wood & Glory, and Lake Tahoe’s Concours d’Elegance a number of times where it won third place in the “user” class. Always lovingly cared for by the seller in its custom built, insulated, ventilated, concrete floored boat barn.

    The boat comes on a 1991 DHL tandem axle trailer with new tires and bearings. This “Barrel Back” at 17ft allows for easy storage and trailering.

    The Higgins brand is synonymous with the famous PT boats they built for WWII. The PT boats were built using the then new plywood construction. After the war, Higgins used there plywood boat building experience to launch a new line of pleasure boats. In 1948, two primary models were offered, the 17′ Sport Speedster utility and the 19′ Deluxe Runabout. Total production numbers are unknown, but the 19′ Runabout was only produced for two years and I have only seen two others.

    This example was sold new on Lake Tahoe and was in the care of Sierra Boat for a long time. At some point in its life, it was fully fiberglassed and the glass is still in exceptional condition. The hull color is wrong, the sides originally being white, the decks red and the transom varnished. All of the hardware and fittings are original. It is fitted with the original 115 hp Chrysler Crown engine. It comes on a very nice tandem trailer and has a newer cover.

    The Chris Craft 20ft Custom Runabout was the successor to the pre-war 19ft Custom Runabout or Barrel Back. Only 369 hulls were built from 1946 to 1949. This is hull number 338, built in the final year. They were the first of the post war runabouts to feature the blond decking. Expensive and plush in their day, they featured genuine leather upholstery and a substantial 4 piece folding windshield.

    This example has been restored to the highest standards. It features a 5200 bottom and fully skinned and glued decks and hull sides. It features the top engine option, the Chris Craft MBL at 158 hp. The boat has been fully rewired and has been converted to 12 volt. All details are correct. It has won numerous awards at shows in Oregon and Lake Tahoe. Restorations on this level do not come cheap, so here is an opportunity to buy a ready to go boat for a fraction of the cost of a restoration. It comes on a custom fitted Ryan Trailer.

    The 20ft Custom Runabout is one of the best post war boats that Chris Craft built. They were very high quality and were a continuation of the pre-war 19ft Custom, AKA 19ft Barrel Back. These boats have become one of the most collectible boats on the market.

    This 1949 Chris Craft 20ft was delivered in June of 1949 to a dealer in Duluth, Minnesota. Nearly 40 years later, the restorer Don Viehmeyer discovered her in Minnesota in 1986 in very poor condition and restored her in 2000. The current owners purchased “Clementine” in May of that year. Her name originated from the song “Oh My Darling Clementine” because she is, as the lyrics go, a “49’er”.

    Clementine was a family boat and a daily user on Lake Tahoe. She is hull #362 of a series of 367 which makes her one of the last manufactured in the series. Clementine has been “Miss May” in a national calendar and has appeared in Classic Boating Magazine.  The boat has earned first and second place awards at the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance. The boat was last refreshed by the crew at Obexer’s Boat Company.

    The boat comes on a custom Trailer Plus tandem axle trailer that was fully serviced in the spring of 2019 and is protected by a custom full waterline cover.

    The 22ft Sportsman is one of Chris Craft’s most popular and practical post-war models with a total of 2,082 22ft Sportsman’s built between 1946 and 1954. These well known and collectible boats are affectionately referred to as U-22’s and were made famous as the boat used in the 1980’s movie ‘On Golden Pond’ with Henry & Jane Fonda.

    Hacker Craft’s have been hand crafted since 1908 with John L. Hacker being the preeminent naval architect of mahogany pleasure crafts of the last century. Hacker Crafts are considered one of the most authentic American-made brands to this day.

    This 1949 Hacker Craft 22ft Utility was limited in production making it rare. It has been said that only 3 of these models exist today. The high quality of construction is consistent with other post war Hacker Crafts produced at that time. The 22ft Utility offers three rows of seating making the layout perfect for cocktail cruising with guest or family adventure on the water.

    This 1949 Hacker Craft 22ft Utility is powered by a Chrysler Marine M28 with around 180 hp. This engine performs extremely well with plenty of torque.

    In the winter of 2008-2009, Sierra Boat Co. restored the decks, hull sides, transom, and interior bright work as well as new flooring. In 2019 the boat received new bottom paint. This boat features a West System no-soak bottom and is used each summer out of a slip at Sierra Boat Company.

    Chris Craft was founded in the late 19th century by Chris Smith and became famous for its mahogany hulled powerboats from the 1920’s through the 1950’s. They built many different sizes and types of boats ranging from utility style to full race boats.

    This Chris Craft is 1 of 88 23′ Holidays that the company built from 1950-1952. The hull # is H-23-005, making it one of the first few 23’ Holiday’s built. The boat is powered by a Marine Power 260 hp engine with a Holley carburetor. The engine has only 70.5 hours on it and had a complete tune up in 2016.

    This boat features a no soaking epoxy bottom that is in excellent condition. In the winter of 2018/2019 the decks, coverboards, and transom were stripped, stained and re-varnished by Sierra Boat. This boat came to Sierra Boat in the spring of 2016 and has been kept in a slip for each summer season including now where it currently resides.

    The combination of blonde and dark rich Philippine mahogany, teak floors and perfect plush red upholstery is truly a must see!

    The Chris Craft 22ft Custom Sedan was produced from 1948 to 1954. They made only 436 Custom Sedans in that 7-year period and this Chris Craft is hull number 381. The Sedan Custom is a popular model due to the convenience of the sedan top that allows you to be on the water but out of the sun when desired.

    This 1952 Chris Craft Custom Sedan is an original one owner boat that has been used solely on Lake Tahoe. It has been used by one family out of their West shore lake front home for all these years until now, making its first time on the market since new in 1952. In 2018/2019, the seller had a custom dual axle trailer made by Sport Boats Trailers featuring LED lights, spare tire, and more. In 2019, Northwest Classic Boats in Auburn, CA replaced the entire bottom with a new fiberglass bottom for “no-soak” use. They also added new varnish to the hull sides, transom, and deck. In 2020/2021, Obexer’s Boat Company rebuilt the Chris Craft MBL engine. This Chris Craft MBL engine with 158 hp has very little engine hours after the recent rebuild.
