1959 Chris Craft 19ft Silver Arrow

Back in the 1950’s, car manufacturers had discovered the beauty of fiberglass; it was light and easy to shape, yet strong and durable. Before long, boat builders realized fiberglass was ideally suited for their applications. At the time, Chris Craft was the leading builder of pleasure crafts in America. They started to experiment with fiberglass in 1957 and made public in 1958 the Chris Craft Silver Arrow. The Silver Arrow used a fiberglass shell molded around a traditional 19ft wooden planked boat. The Silver Arrow was known for a pair of prominent fins on the transom which was inspired by the automobiles of that time. The unique futuristic construction as well as its sleek, stylish profile makes the Silver Arrow rare and desirable.

The Silver Arrow was built from 1958 to 1959 with a total of 92 hulls built. It has been said that about 30 still exist today. This 1959 Silver Arrow example is number 62 in the production line.

The Silver Arrow had about 20% more weight than the equivalent wooden boat due to the added fiberglass allowing it to perform better on rougher water for an outstanding cruising experience. The Silver Arrow also has anti-trip chines that allow it to bank into a turn better than most runabouts.

This 1959 Chris Craft 19ft Silver Arrow is powered by a Chris Craft 283 engine that was converted to a 350. It is showing an original 443.4 engine hours, so the hull has that many hours of use, but the converted engine has less.

This boat was bought new and has been in the seller’s family ever since. Always used in Lake Tahoe, it was restored 15-20 years ago and has a West System bottom with a glass overlay on it.  It won an award in the Concourse d’Elegance boat show before being put away for storage in the seller’s garage in Rubicon for many years.
