1942 Chris Craft 17ft Deluxe Runabout “Barrel Back”

From 1940 to 1942, Chris Craft only produced 425 17ft Chris Craft Deluxe Runabouts or better know as “Barrel Back” runabouts. The iconic “Barrel Back” name comes from the almost perfect semi-circle transom that looks from the rear like a floating barrel when it is in the water.  Beautifully appointed, these mahogany-hulled runabouts were built to the highest standards and the graceful lines made them popular with generations of collectors and wooden boat enthusiasts.

This 1942 Chris Craft 17ft Deluxe Runabout was found in LA where it was used on fresh water lakes in that area. The original restoration was completed in 2001 and later the boat received new coats of varnish and mirror work at Northwest Classic Boats in Grass Valley, CA.

This boat features a no-soak west system bottom for easy use. It is powered by an upgraded Chris Craft KL engine with 121 hp which helps it move along at Lake Tahoe’s high altitude. There is no engine hour meter, but the seller has stated that the engine has less than 200 hours on it. The boat has its original 6V electrical system.

This “Barrel Back” has been featured in magazines and books as well as been shown at Nationals, Wood & Glory, and Lake Tahoe’s Concours d’Elegance a number of times where it won third place in the “user” class. Always lovingly cared for by the seller in its custom built, insulated, ventilated, concrete floored boat barn.

The boat comes on a 1991 DHL tandem axle trailer with new tires and bearings. This “Barrel Back” at 17ft allows for easy storage and trailering.

Chris Craft was founded in the late 19th century by Chris Smith and became famous for its mahogany hulled powerboats from the 1920’s through the 1950’s. They built many different sizes and types of boats ranging from utility style to full race boats.

This Chris Craft is 1 of 88 23′ Holidays that the company built from 1950-1952. The hull # is H-23-005, making it one of the first few 23’ Holiday’s built. The boat is powered by a Marine Power 260 hp engine with a Holley carburetor. The engine has only 70.5 hours on it and had a complete tune up in 2016.

This boat features a no soaking epoxy bottom that is in excellent condition. In the winter of 2018/2019 the decks, coverboards, and transom were stripped, stained and re-varnished by Sierra Boat. This boat came to Sierra Boat in the spring of 2016 and has been kept in a slip for each summer season including now where it currently resides.

The combination of blonde and dark rich Philippine mahogany, teak floors and perfect plush red upholstery is truly a must see!

1952 Chris Craft 22ft Custom Sedan – SOLD

    $65,000.00

1952 Chris Craft 22ft Custom Sedan

The Chris Craft 22ft Custom Sedan was produced from 1948 to 1954. They made only 436 Custom Sedans in that 7-year period and this Chris Craft is hull number 381. The Sedan Custom is a popular model due to the convenience of the sedan top that allows you to be on the water but out of the sun when desired.

This 1952 Chris Craft Custom Sedan is an original one owner boat that has been used solely on Lake Tahoe. It has been used by one family out of their West shore lake front home for all these years until now, making its first time on the market since new in 1952. In 2018/2019, the seller had a custom dual axle trailer made by Sport Boats Trailers featuring LED lights, spare tire, and more. In 2019, Northwest Classic Boats in Auburn, CA replaced the entire bottom with a new fiberglass bottom for “no-soak” use. They also added new varnish to the hull sides, transom, and deck. In 2020/2021, Obexer’s Boat Company rebuilt the Chris Craft MBL engine. This Chris Craft MBL engine with 158 hp has very little engine hours after the recent rebuild.

In the last three years the sellers have over $75k invested in the boat with records available. Don’t miss out on an original one owner, Tahoe only Custom Sedan!

1959 Chris Craft 19ft Silver Arrow

    $59,500.00

1959 Chris Craft 19ft Silver Arrow

Back in the 1950’s, car manufacturers had discovered the beauty of fiberglass; it was light and easy to shape, yet strong and durable. Before long, boat builders realized fiberglass was ideally suited for their applications. At the time, Chris Craft was the leading builder of pleasure crafts in America. They started to experiment with fiberglass in 1957 and made public in 1958 the Chris Craft Silver Arrow. The Silver Arrow used a fiberglass shell molded around a traditional 19ft wooden planked boat. The Silver Arrow was known for a pair of prominent fins on the transom which was inspired by the automobiles of that time. The unique futuristic construction as well as its sleek, stylish profile makes the Silver Arrow rare and desirable.

The Silver Arrow was built from 1958 to 1959 with a total of 92 hulls built. It has been said that about 30 still exist today. This 1959 Silver Arrow example is number 62 in the production line.

The Silver Arrow had about 20% more weight than the equivalent wooden boat due to the added fiberglass allowing it to perform better on rougher water for an outstanding cruising experience. The Silver Arrow also has anti-trip chines that allow it to bank into a turn better than most runabouts.

This 1959 Chris Craft 19ft Silver Arrow is powered by a Chris Craft 283 engine that was converted to a 350. It is showing an original 443.4 engine hours, so the hull has that many hours of use, but the converted engine has less.

This boat was bought new and has been in the seller’s family ever since. Always used in Lake Tahoe, it was restored 15-20 years ago and has a West System bottom with a glass overlay on it.  It won an award in the Concourse d’Elegance boat show before being put away for storage in the seller’s garage in Rubicon for many years.

These rare, stylish and uniquely designed boats are a head turner at any dock you pull up to!

    1966 Donzi Sweet 16

The Sweet 16 was the masterpiece of Don Aronow and the first boat offered by his company, Donzi Marine. Since going into production in 1964, with a gap in the late 1970s and early 1980s, this boat has been something of a little-known jewel. Its 50-plus mph top speed at sea level feels like a whole lot more, and with the type of handling only a small boat can offer, it’s incredibly fun to drive.

This Donzi will turn heads with its red stripe on white color scheme. Besides its undeniable good looks, the Donzi 16 was a sensation because of its performance. This boat is powered by a Ford 260 V8 with a Holman Moody Marine outdrive. The engine was rebuilt by Sierra Boat Company in the winter of 2014 and has only been used in Lake Tahoe’s fresh water. The rebuilt engine has less than 100 hours on it.

In 1966 this Donzi arrived at Sierra Boat Company new from the factory. Sierra Boats General Manager at that time, Dick Clarke, bought the boat for his personal use. The current seller bought the boat in 1978 and has used it on Tahoe only. The seller has an extensive record file that will come with the boat.

This boat comes on a 1966 custom Nor-Cal Trailers single axle trailer. It is protected by a full cover and a cockpit snap on tonneau cover.

1969 Bertram 20ft “The Red Baron” – SOLD

    $38,500.00

1969 Bertram 20ft “The Red Baron”

This is the smallest in the Baron line of race boats. The Bertram name carries a great reputation in classic as well as modern boats as they are very well-built boats. This one in particular is one of a run of only of 20 or so in 1969.  In the mid 60’s racing was popular and boat builders were looking to dominate certain classes of boat lengths. This was a tried and true hull in the early 60’s known as the Mopie fishing vessel. It had great hull lift due to the heavy interior and overall construction.

Sammy James was the heavy hitter in Bertram Racing at the time and the current seller of the boat tracked him down in Florida some years ago. He asked him if he was familiar with the boat and Sammy James said “Familiar???? Hell son, I built them. You mean there are still some left?  That’s great.” Sammy James then filled the seller in on the boat. They basically stripped the Mopie and built this custom deck for the boat to go racing. The boat was a really great performer up to about 60 MPH and then it got a little sketchy. They lost about ½ the boats in testing and regrouped, sold the remaining boats (repowered with less power to control hull speed) and sold them off to recoup some funds for the next boat to test. They were powered with Holman-Moody engines and had Volvo outdrives of the period.

This boat was purchased in New York by Dick Clarke of Sierra Boat Company about 45 years ago and sat in the warehouse until Tony Brown of wood boat restoration fame bought it and it sat some more. The current owner bought it and proceeded to do a period correct refurb on it. It is not representing a restoration as there are original pieces that were not serviced or restored and the seller did take some liberties that are correct but upgraded.  He installed a period correct Volvo outdrive with outboard trim rams which is rare. He also built a Holman-Moody Ford 351 Windsor engine as this was for altitude.  It does 45 on GPS at Tahoe’s 6300’ elevation.  The boat comes on a custom trailer that was fit to the boat.

The seller has all the receipts since he bought it. This is truly a great collector’s boat that can be enjoyed and then restored with room for future profit on a sale.

    1971 Riva Super Ariston

The Ariston model enjoyed a long run, with the first prototypes being built in 1950 to the last boat built in 1974. According to records a total of 1004 hulls were produced. This example is hull no. 970. It is classified as a series four hull and the last hull type of the super Ariston series, which were longer and had the best riding hull. “Super” Ariston’s account for only 181 of the total hulls produced. The super designation was assigned to boats with larger engines, in this case the big block Chevrolet marinized by Crusader Marine and Riva.

Renegade III (original name) is a 1971 Series 4 23-foot Riva Super Ariston. It was sold new to Edmond Safra, a billionaire banker who resided in Monaco.  He was tragically killed in 1999 when his waterfront estate on Monaco harbor burned.

This boat is the last Super Ariston to be built while Carlo Riva was still in charge of Cantiere Riva and the last one with the traditional black face VDO instruments. The current owner imported the boat to California 20 years ago. It has just recently been the subject of a comprehensive multiple year refurbishment.

The bottom has been professionally replaced with a West System bottom by Northwest Classic Boats. The transom was also replaced. All of the rest of the wood on the boat is original. The boat only has 600 hours on it since new and less than 1 hour since its refurbishment.

It is powered by the original Riva Crusader 320 horsepower, 427 cubic inch engine. The upholstery and flooring are new. The boat has an original Riva factory cover and comes on a custom tandem axle trailer.

In September 2021 it was awarded Overall Best of Show – Preserved and International Boat of the Year-Preserved at the annual Antique and Classic Boat Society’s International Boat Show in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, with a near perfect score.

    1973 Chris Craft XK22

    $75,000.00

    1973 Chris Craft XK22

The Chris Craft XK22 was advertised as a rocket ready to take off! Between 1971 and 1976, Chris Craft made only 230 hulls of the XK22. In 1973, only 75 hulls were built making this boat #72 out of 75 manufactured that year.

Over the 60’s and 70’s, Chris-Craft made the transition from wooden mahogany runabouts to fiberglass runabouts. The fiberglass runabouts were built to last longer and had cheaper maintenance costs. The XK22 is recognized as one of the first fiberglass boats commercialized by Chris Craft.

The XK22 model attracts collectors as it was at the time a symbol of luxury and modernity made for the sophisticated gentlemen. Its deep V hull was designed by Jim Wayne, while Dick Avery was in charge of the successful design of the deck.

This 1973 Chris Craft XK22 was fully restored by Vogue Marine in Boulder City, Nevada. This included tearing the boat down to its basic structure then completely re-gel coating the boat in Chevrolet Bel Air turquoise and ivory white with chrome accents. It features an entirely new and pristine white and turquoise interior complete with custom seats designed like racing seats. This restoration took place over several years and was completed in 2015, accumulating into the impressive vessel it is today. All records for the restoration are available, as the seller has over $100k invested in the boat and custom trailer.

This XK22 is powered by a Corvette 350 engine with 320 hp. The engine has been enhanced with high performance exhaust and ignition system. Attention to detail is evident when viewing this engine with no expense spared.

This boat has only been used once after the restoration and then stored to preserve its pristine condition. Features on this 1973 Chris Craft XK22 include a new custom bimini top, a new sand weighted cockpit cover, a transportation cover, Sirius Satellite Radio, custom sun pad over the engine hatch, reinforced fiberglass on the deck bow for walking on, cuddy cabin under bow deck with custom cushions, and a 2016 custom California Trailer Works Inc. dual axle trailer which is painted to match.

  1. Hey Mac . Congratulations.
I would like more info on Chris craft if you get a chance .Also are there any Chris Craft boat shows coming soon

  2. I have a 22.6′ boat. What is your fees for Winter Boat Storage? What days does it cover? What additional fees are there (e.g. winterizing/summerizing)? Do you have availability for winter 2021-22? If not, the following year?

  3. Hello, My name is Michael Aberle and I have a 1962 Chris Craft Holiday 20ft. The boat is in good condition and I have some motor work done this last year, but I would like to see what the cost would be to have you complete the restoration. I have her in California now. Could we sort up a zoom or FaceTime call to review the boat and get an estimate.
