MOLOTOV COCKTAIL
1959 Chris Craft Continental, 200+ HP Chevrolet V8
Molotov was sold new by the Tahoe Boat Company in July 1959 for $4270. After spending 26 years in light use on the Sacramento Delta, the original owner sold us the boat. She was named “Old Timer” when we acquired her, which seemed appropriate for all the trouble she gave us on Lake Tahoe for several years. We decided to completely restore her after a high-speed emergency run to Sierra Boat with all the seats out of the boat due to a leaking gas tank We later found out that she also had an intermittent sparking coil wire that could have sent the boat up in flames. When we picked her up, the harbormaster, Pat Bagan, said ”this boat is a floating Molotov Cocktail!” Hence, the name!
In 2001, we undertook a complete restoration of the hull, engine; upholstery and fittings under the expert craftsmanship of Roy Domke at Runabout Reflections. She was completed in 2002, just prior to the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance, where she took second place. Since then, we have enjoyed many wonderful times cruising and water skiing on the lake. She is still a vibrant boat on Lake Tahoe, as you can see in the enclosed video, shot last summer.
