1946 Glazer E Class Service Runabout

    $52,000.00

This is a unique 1946 Glazer E Class Service Runabout.

After the War boat racing really took off. The American Powerboat Association (APBA), had a number of racing classes and among them was the E Class Service Runabout. The rules of this class dictated that the boat be no longer than 16’8″ long, weigh no more than 1,750 lbs., be able to carry a driver and a passenger, and have an engine no larger than 255 Cu In. Typically made of marine plywood these boats could reach speeds of up to 60 mph. This boat is considered a “vintage” racer under APBA rules. For more about this class, go to:

    http://vintagehydroplanes.com/apba_history/speed_records/service_runabout.html

Baby Live Wires was constructed by John (Pops) Glazer, who was a well-respected builder of small racing boats. Baby Live Wires was raced in its earlier years in Buffalo, NY. The engine features Offenhauser aluminum heads and an Offy intake with duel Stromberg 97’s. It also has a Mallory Unilite Electronic Distributor. It is ready for vintage racing or the show boat circuit.

In the Spring of 2016, Sierra Boat did extensive mechanical work to Baby Live Wires. The engine was removed, disassembled and resealed. Heads were removed to check for straightness and cylinders were inspected, all looked brand new. New oil pan gasket, intake, copper fuel line and new gauges were installed. Both carbs were rebuilt. The bottom end of the motor and the reverse gear was disassembled and inspected. The old electrical wiring was removed and replaced with new wiring. Everything was reassembled, repainted and done at show quality detail. A fresh coat of varnish went on the deck and hull sides and the sign painting was touched up.

Baby Live Wires is ready for a showroom or a race!

  • 1947 Chris Craft 20ft Custom Runabout – SOLD

    $89,000.00

1947 Chris Craft 20ft Custom Runabout – SOLD

    $89,000.00

This is a 1947 Chris Craft 20ft Custom Runabout.

Completely restored in 2001, it features fully glued construction and modern power. The 20ft Custom Runabout is one of the best post war boats that Chris Craft built. They were very high quality and were a continuation of the pre-war 19ft Custom, AKA 19ft Barrel Back. They have become one of the most collectable boats on the market.

The boat is powered by a 310 hp Mercruiser engine which gives it great performance in the altitude over the stock 158 hp MBL flathead. Besides modern power, several details keep this boat from being a show boat like vinyl upholstery instead of leather. The vinyl upholstery is more practical as it withstands wear tear better then leather. The glued construction makes the wood very stable and eliminates plank movement and water leaking. The decks were freshly varnished in the winter of 2016. It comes on a nice, fitted trailer and has a full waterline custom cover.

This boat has been in a slip each summer at Sierra Boat Co. since 2014. It is turn key and ready to be enjoyed!

    $59,500.00

1948 Chris Craft 20ft Custom Runabout

    $59,500.00

This is a 1948 Chris Craft 20ft Custom Runabout.

The 20ft Custom was the post war continuation of the pre-war 19ft Custom Runabout, better known as the barrel back. The post war boats were more modern in every way, sporting a much roomier and plush cockpit. Extra thick padded bolsters emulate the finest cars of the day. The two-tone red and blond wood stain was the debut for this color combination. The boat is powered by a 158 hp Chris Craft MBL engine which gives this boat respectable performance with 30+ MPH on Lake Tahoe.

Material Girl is an older restoration but has been well taken care of and is still in very good to excellent condition. She was restored by well-known restorer Dave Wright and features fully epoxy glued construction and a west-system bottom for leak free use. The upholstery is genuine leather as original. All details are show correct.

Comes on a 2011 tandem trailer.

This Boat won the Best Chris Craft Award at the 2011 Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance.

    1949 Chris Craft 20ft Custom – SOLD

    $125,000.00

1949 Chris Craft 20 Custom. This is hands down one of the finest boats I have listed. It was fully re-constructed in 2013 by esteemed restorer Dan Nelson in Minnesota. It is essentially all new, using the correct Honduran mahogany. The boat is entirely glued, bottom sides and decks. In three years in California it does not have a single crack! 20 Customs were notoriously under built and the methods used, while not traditional, are the only way to enjoy this model without the durability problems of the original. Correct color and pattern leather upholstery was done by Rod Souza. The original 158 hp Chris Craft MBL has been fully re-built. Comes on a custom fitted trailer.

1952 Chris Craft 19ft Racing Runabout

    $35,000.00

1952 Chris Craft 19ft Racing Runabout.

The Chris Craft Racing Runabout is one of the most collectible of all the Chris Craft models. The long front deck and classic vee windshield give it a sleek look. One of the fastest boats of its day, the racing Runabout sports a 158 hp Chris Craft MBL which will allow it to attain speeds of up to 45 mph. These are a true spots car on the water and a blast to drive.

Last Time was purchased by Tahoe legend, Wilbur Miller, in the early 90’s. A Tahoe original boat, she had been used hard and was in need of total restoration. Wilbur had owed a number of racers over the years and he loved them. This was to be the “last time” he had one restored. Completed in the 90’s she has been shown in numerous Tahoe Concours shows. The boat is now in need of some refreshment to the original work. Most importantly, repairs are needed on the fiberglassed bottom, specifically at the transom. Here’s a chance to own a piece of Tahoe history.

    $65,000.00

    1954 Chris Craft 24ft Holiday

    $65,000.00

    1954 Chris Craft 24ft Holiday.

The large Holiday series started out at 23′. In 1954 they reversed the rake of the transom and gained another foot of length giving the model more interior space. The Holiday was the more upscale model to the basic 22′ Sportsman. It features two toned red and blond stained mahogany and a steeply raked windshield. The interior has plush, deeply upholstered seats and teak flooring. The middle seat was standard for this model. These were the first of the Chris Craft runabouts to feature the “clipper bow” or ‘bullnose” styling to the stem. This feature was adopted for all models in the 1955 model year. While some might confuse this model with the later Continental series, they are a very different boat in all regards. In our experience, they handle and ride much better due to a narrower bottom.

This example has had extensive restoration work done. Sierra Boat completed the restoration, started by another shop, and has fully sorted the boat out. The bottom is a 5200 type, with no leaks. The engine is a 175 HP Chris Craft MCL model, overhauled in 2013, which is a later version of the original 158 HP MBL. It has more horsepower and 12-volt electrics.

The boat has been shown at the Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance where she garnered a 2nd place in class.

This is a perfect boat for Tahoe with seating for 9 people and the size to handle Tahoe’s rough water.

It comes with extensive equipment including a new waterline cover and a custom built tandem axle trailer.

Fully restored in the late 80’s but never used, the boats varnish is in stunning condition and looks like it just came out of the shop. It features modern V-8 power from a Pleasurecraft 225 hp 502 Ford engine. The bottom is epoxy glassed but will need to be replaced. The decks were fully replaced and are glued to a plywood substrate. 20ft Continentals don’t come up for sale very often as only 221 were built between 1955 and 1957. Only 170 21ft Capri’s were built from 1955 to 1956. Even fewer were built with the Chrysler M45 hemi option. Of all the Capri models, this is the most desirable and demand has pushed prices into just under $100,000 for top quality boats.

This example is in very original, but nice condition. There are a few open seams on the deck and the bottom is original, so it will need to be soaked up. It garnered a respectable 2nd place at the Tahoe Concours. Unusual to this boat is the turquoise and white upholstery which was a factory special order, with gold and white being standard.
