    1932 Gar Wood 28 Runabout

    $350,000.00

1932 Gar Wood 28 Runabout. to the best of our research, Liberty is the only remaining 28′ Gar Wood Triple with an original Gar Wood conversion engine. Only four of the 28-55 runabouts were built in that year, according to records compiled by Tony Mollica. Gar Wood purchased and marinized the World War I engines as a way to provide lightweight 400 hp engines, first in the Baby Gar 33′ boats and later in a small amount of 28 footers. The Scripps v-12 engines would not be available for a few years later, so in 1932 if you wanted performance, the Liberty V-12 was the option of choice.

Sierra acquired this boat as a complete derelict, some time in the 70’s. Much of the boat’s hardware was missing, the the engine was still there. restoration was started in the early 80’s and at the time, it was one of Sierra’s most extensive restoration projects, requiring almost an entire replacement of every frame and plank. That work was done by then employee, Tony Brown, now the owner of Western Runabouts. The engine, as mentioned was there, but in sorry condition. At the time, we did not have the needed spare parts to rebuild it. We did have however, a complete running Liberty that had come out of a 33′ Gar Wood. Refurbishing of the engine and installation was done by Sierra’s legendary Dave Chanda.

Fast forward to present, the boat has once again had a light re-restoration of the wood and upholstery, entrusted to Tony Brown. The engine was removed by Sierra and master engine builder Cooper Stubbs, completely tore down the engine for an inspection and re-gasketing. All engine systems were checked over and re-built as needed.

A favorite at the Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance, “Liberty” stands out from the crowd. If you have never driven a Liberty powered boat, there is nothing quite like it. 1,649 cubic inches of engine turning at 1,800 rpm with 5″ exhausts. The torque is immense and every slight turn of the throttle is instantly translated in to more speed.

This is a chance to own a truly one of a kind boat that has a long history on Tahoe and has been cared by the best craftsmen on the lake.

1939 Chris Craft 19ft Custom Runabout

    $109,500.00

1939 Chris Craft 19ft Custom Runabout, “Barrel Back”.

The Chris Craft Custom Runabout, known colloquially in classic boating circles as the “Barrel Back,” is arguably the most desirable Chris Craft model produced. They represented the highest level of craftsmanship Chris Craft ever offered because it required skilled craftsmen to produce the full half circle transom shape. The transom is so round above water that it actually looks like a floating barrel. While Chris Craft never officially adopted the moniker, it stuck anyway. The 19-foot Custom Runabout model was built from 1939 through 1942 and only 433 were made.

This Custom Runabout, hull number 48641, was completely restored in 2007/2008 with photo documentation of the project. The boat is currently in Bristol Condition and is equipped with a 5200 bottom to eliminate soaking. It has the fold down Bugatti style windshields as used in 1939 and 1940. Also unique to this year is the one-piece instrument panel. It is powered by the original Chris Craft M engine with 135 hp. The engine was rebuilt in 2007 and currently has less than 25 hours on it. It features a 12V charging system with one battery, a bilge pump and horn. It also comes with two covers, summer and winter. The boat sits on a single axle 2007 Trailmaster trailer with spare tire and is annually serviced.

This boat is offsite and has not been inspected by Sierra Boat Co.

Chris Craft was founded in the late 19th century by Chris Smith and became famous for its mahogany hulled powerboats from the 1920’s through the 1950’s. They built many different sizes and types of boats ranging from utility style to full race boats.

This Chris Craft is 1 of 88 23′ Holidays that the company built from 1950-1952. The hull # is H-23-005, making it one of the first few 23’ Holiday’s built. The boat is powered by a Marine Power 260 hp engine with a Holley carburetor. The engine has only 70.5 hours on it and had a complete tune up in 2016.

In the winter of 2018/2019 the decks, coverboards, and transom were stripped, stained and re-varnished by Sierra Boat. This boat came to Sierra Boat in the spring of 2016 and has been kept in a slip for each summer season including now where it currently resides.

The combination of blonde and dark rich Philippine mahogany, teak floors and perfect plush red upholstery is truly a must see!

    1967 Rio 28ft Super Colorado.

“Avionautica Rio” was then founded in 1961, building beautiful motorboats in mahogany with Chris Craft and Rolls-Royce engines along with striking model names such as Colorado, Paranà, Bonito, and Espera. Since the early 1960’s, Rio boats made from mahogany have been sailing the Mediterranean to reach every market throughout Europe. These motorboats were built with great skill and wisdom during a period that culminated in an agreement with Rolls Royce to build a model carrying a V8 engine, the ultimate expression of two prestigious brands. Check out the history at Rio Yachts, https://www.rioyachts.net/en/50-anni-di-storia/

The Rio shipyard was originally just down the street from the famed Riva shipyard. The influence of the Riva brand is evident in the Colorado, taking many styling clues from the iconic Aquarama. True to all things Italian, the Rio boats are highly crafted works of art. Rio’s should be seen as a different brand than Riva, just as Lamborghini is different from Ferrari, not inferior just different.

The example listed here is the only known to exist 1967 Rio 28ft Super Colorado in the US, and one of only a handful of Rio’s in this country. The “super” designation is due to the use of “Big Block” engines, in this case a pair of Chrysler Marine 440’s. It is not known how many Colorado’s were built, but it is estimated that the numbers were very low, and certainly the Super is rarer still. The hull number is 035, which assumes it is the 35th built.

Sierra Boat has been the primary caretaker of this boat since its restoration in the mid 90’s. It has been well taken care of and was recently completely re-varnished and the engines were totally re-built.

This is a perfect boat for Tahoe and capable of handling rough water with ease.

This is a very rare 1916 Lawley 37ft Vee Bottom Launch.

Miami is an historical boat that was custom built by Lawley for Carl Fisher. Mr. Fisher was an American Entrepreneur and among many other things the main real estate developer of Miami Beach. Fisher needed a comfortable fast cruiser for his new playground and turned to the Lawley Boat Company to build him his custom boat.

Miami was used in Florida and her name is a tribute to that history. Carl Fisher then sold it and shipped it to Michigan where it was used and loved for many years. The Michigan owner knew that a full restoration was due, but the cost prohibited him from proceeding. In 1986, Sierra Boat’s manager Dick Clark was shown Miami during one of his annual boat hunting trips and immediately recognized Miami as a boat worthy of a good home and a proper restoration. Miami arrived at Sierra Boat in 1987 and sat until 1990 when her current owner purchased the boat and set about formulating a restoration plan.

The restoration project took the approach that all visible details would be as faithful as possible, but the powerplant and mechanical systems would be modern. Considering its age at the time, Miami was in remarkable shape. The restoration project started with the hull and continued with the cabin and complete deck replacement. The engine was replaced with a Chrysler 440 V8 to give it the performance needed in Lake Tahoe’s altitude. Miami made her first sea trial on Tahoe in the fall of 1995. In the summer of 1996, she was honored with the best professional restoration award at the Tahoe Concours d’Elegance.

Miami has been stored and maintained by Sierra Boat since its Tahoe Arrival in 1987. The boat received a brand new cold molded bottom completed in the spring of 2011. All annual maintenance has been kept up with corresponding records. Miami is birthed for the summer months in a slip at Sierra Boat.

In 1997, Classic Boating did an extensive article on Miami’s history and her 1990-1995 restoration project. Please see the pictures for the scanned version of the article as it goes into great detail. Miami is truly a one of a kind historical boat that is ready for the next chapter of her life!

    1915 Fay & Bowen Launch.

This is an early model, hull number 588. It is a very original boat. The decks are new, but it is believed that the rest of the boat is all original including the bottom. The boat is powered by a very rare original Fay & Bowen model LC-41 with 27 hp. This boat is in fine shape cosmetically and runs well with the original engine. As with all boats of this construction type, butted planks with no battens, it takes weeks to soak up the original bottom. It is due for a new bottom and a buyer needs to be aware that this work should be done prior to use. Comes on a fitted cradle. Price reduced, make offer!
